Large Jars
In one way these large jar forms begin with very direct ideas about volume, scale and form – at 3-4 feet tall and around 24″ wide they are roughly the size of the interior of my kiln.
They are inspired by many sources: large storage jars and burial urns, ancient Minoan pots and the forms of Lucy Rie.
I think of these forms as an ongoing connection to the deep history of pottery and the ceramic vessel – what Phillip Rawson calls the “existential base”.
